Graphite

For me, graphite pencils are magical. With them, I can produce a range of tones, from the lightest gray to the deepest black. Whether capturing the delicate contours of a portrait, the intricate details of a red cabbage, or sketching a flock of running sheep, the right graphite pencil can make all the difference in translating the world onto paper. Come visit my Graphite World and enjoy the deep, dark tones.

Morning Reader

Just a man, quietly reading his morning paper on a stone bench outside. All around him, the market town buzzes with life — but he doesn’t notice. He’s completely absorbed in the news. I loved capturing that moment. There’s something timeless about it. And if you look closely, the newspaper flips open just enough to reveal an announcement for an exhibition…

I’ve often wondered — did he ever go?

Deep in Thought
He walks slowly, wrapped in a heavy winter coat, a thick scarf shielding his neck, and a warm top hat snug against the cold. His eyes are fixed on the ground, lost in a world beyond the street.
Where do his thoughts lead him? What has drawn him so deeply inward?

The art of seeing small
My son is an artist too—he paints incredibly detailed miniatures. I’ve often wondered how he manages to capture such precision. The secret? He wears an extra pair of magnifying glasses! This drawing is my tribute to all the artists who bring tiny worlds to life with immense care and skill.

Do I have to?
My grandson, captured in the exact moment his father reminded him it was time to behave. He’s mostly a lovely boy—just not when there’s a camera pointed at him.

Henk Westerhuis
A deeply reflective and inquisitive soul, Henk was always genuinely interested in people. His presence brought comfort and ease to every conversation, making those around him feel truly seen and heard. A wonderful man in every sense, his spirit continues to inspire.

A moment on the RTM
As a steam train enthusiast, I hopped aboard the RTM line, where a friendly volunteer served as our conductor. I asked permission to photograph him, which inspired this drawing.

Mo Brings Plenty
One of my earliest portraits, capturing the striking presence of the talented and handsome Mo Brings Plenty.
